Search Begins for First Deputy Vice Chancellor for Digital and Online Learning | Nebraska today

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s enrollment-focused strategic priorities, combined with the resurgence of online education during the pandemic, have reinvigorated Nebraska’s century-old history with distance education.

In support, the Office of the Executive Vice-Chancellor is inviting applications and nominations for the inaugural position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Digital and Online Learning. This position will champion the university’s response to changing workforce development needs, attracting new, non-traditional learners and reaffirming the university’s commitment to accessing the growth of new programs , stackable certificates and more non-credit offerings to meet the goals of flexible and accessible digital learning. needs of graduates and non-graduates.

Specifically, Nebraska is seeking a digital and online learning leader who will work with faculty, staff, and academic leaders to develop and lead strategic initiatives to increase enrollment; to expand, optimize and improve program offerings that are delivered entirely online; continuing the university’s commitment to access, diversity, equity, and inclusion through distance learning; identify new markets for credit and non-credit opportunities; build strong public/private partnerships; and promote the potential of digital and online learning on campus.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor will report to the Executive Vice-Chancellor and provide expertise, leadership and coordination to activities and initiatives that advance and support digital and online learning. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor will work closely with the Executive Vice-Chancellor, leadership team, and colleges to establish campus-wide strategic priorities, vision for online programming, and chart a course for success.

A 10-member committee made up of faculty, staff, and students was formed to guide the research.

The group is chaired by Daniel Linzell, Associate Dean of Graduate and International Studies Programs and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Committee members include:

– Jacqueline Hills, Director of Enrollment Marketing and Strategic Enrollment Initiatives, Academic Services and Enrollment Management;
– Shavonna Holman, Associate Professor of Practice, Educational Administration;
– Debra Hope, Associate Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Higher Education, Professor of Psychology;
– Kathleen Lodl, Associate Dean and 4-H Program Administrator, Nebraska Extension;
– Kate McCown, Director of Academic Technologies, Information Technology Services;
– Nick Monk, Director, Center for Transformative Education;
– Sophia Perdikaris, director, School of Global Integrative Studies, professor of anthropology;
– Emre Unlu, Executive Director, Center for Professional and Executive Development and Professor of Finance; and
– Francisco Muñoz-Ariola, Associate Professor of Biological Systems Engineering (Diversity Ambassador).
