The virtual event will host Tom Crombie, Founder and CEO of My Online Schooling, among other selected industry panelists, and examine education as a whole in the Gulf, why the UK curriculum is revered, and the different options and means. which parents can harness technology and bring education to their children.
Crombie, a former teacher and head of school, studied at the University of Glasgow and most recently at the University of Edinburgh where he started his PGDE in primary education. His teaching career began in Scotland, before embarking on a five-year adventure to live and work in New Zealand.
Crombie spent five years at ACG Sunderland in Auckland as a teacher and program manager, where his passion for using innovative technology in the classroom began. He returned to the UK in 2016 and embarked on the project to establish My Online Schooling with the aim of providing internationally accessible, inclusive and innovative online education to young people around the world.
The event will also highlight the current state of education in GCC, online education / teaching, how the public has changed their minds towards online education after the pandemic and the future of education.
In an exclusive interview ahead of the event, Crombie highlights some critical facets of the virtual event as well as relevant points about the relevance of online education as remote access has become a thing. with the rise of Covid, and how distance learning is slowly being seen as the new normal for the education sector in the wake of the pandemic.
What is the virtual event organized by My Online Schooling called and why do you think an event like this is the right choice for the education sector?
The event is called Access British education in the Gulf region. We have been offering the UK online program to primary and secondary school students for over five years now. However, after the pandemic, families are considering different options for their children’s education.
Online learning will play a central role in the future of education and My Online Schooling brings together a community of learners from all over the world in an innovative and inclusive school. We have a thriving community of Middle Eastern students and we look forward to discussing the power of e-learning to access UK education in the region.
How do you see students and parents in the Middle East, and especially here in the United Arab Emirates, benefiting from the online event hosted by My Online Schooling?
We currently have hundreds of students in the Middle East, the majority residing in the United Arab Emirates. In early 2022 we will be the first online UK international to be based in Dubai and we are excited to create more opportunities for students from the region to join our Middle East school. We are one of the world’s leading online schools and offer the full UK curriculum to primary and secondary school students around the world. Our wellness and additional support needs departments help all students access our full program, whatever their needs.
What are the main topics that will be discussed during the event?
We will discuss the benefits of a UK education and the power of online schooling to enable students to access innovative education of excellence. We will talk about changes in post-pandemic education and the role that digital innovation will have in 21st century education. We will also cover the global desire for blended learning among international schools and the benefits of a hybrid model of in-person and online education. We will also talk about the rise of online education in the Middle East and the level of interest in British education in the region.
Who are the other spokespersons invited to share their views at the virtual event and how do they seek to enrich the discussion?
The virtual event will also host Evo Hannan and Sarah Ahmed. Hannan is passionate about design and innovation in education. Innately motivated by his desire to create positive change, he has used his 20 years of experience to devote himself to projects that have made an impact around the world, including Project The Agency and Ed Talks Live, a TV show. -Live debate on YouTube which discusses current topics related to education. , with guests from all over the world.
Hannan recently launched Innovation X’s first service called Vertigo, a social media agency for schools and education partners that delivers a modern, streamlined approach to community engagement, growth and communication. Hannan will discuss the role of digital innovation in the future of education and his teaching experiences in Dubai.
Ahmed, for his part, has eight years of experience as an educator. She taught in the early grades, in primary and secondary schools, in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. She had lived in Dubai for five years and previously worked in excellent UK and IB schools. For two years in Dubai, she has been teaching and creating online content.
Ahmed has a bachelor’s degree in Arabic and Islamic studies. She graduated from early childhood in the UK and obtained her vocational education certificate from the American University in Dubai. She is currently completing her Masters in Education and her mother tongue is Arabic, although she is also fluent in English.
Ahmed strives to provide a positive, active, constructive, stimulating and meaningful learning environment for all students by creating an enjoyable and dynamic learning atmosphere. She is tech-savvy and excellent at using educational applications and technologies to enrich the online learning experience for students.
Ahmed also applies 21st century skills to fully implement effective and innovative teaching strategies while focusing on the individual learning needs of students. She looks forward to discussing her experiences and the value of e-learning in the UAE.
What is the size of the Middle East education sector market for a UK based online education portal such as My Online Schooling and why is it crucial for the brand to expand their reach into the region, especially here in UAE?
MOS has over 1,500 learners around the world and the Middle East is the fastest growing region for schools. Education in the Middle East is a huge market and access to UK education is a major part of the market. MOS has expanded its international student base after the pandemic and we want to make sure that all international students and their families get the support they need during their learning journey with us.
My Online Schooling is believed to be the only UK online school with international bases, currently in Edinburgh UK and Perth, Australia, and with its latest branch to open soon in Dubai. For us, it is essential that every member of our community feels supported, wherever they are in the world. We have a unique team of Success Coordinators who are based internationally and are there to support every parent or guardian throughout their journey at My Online Schooling.
How do you think online education provides a 360-degree perspective for students in their efforts to become global citizens?
I believe that we are the most international school in the world. We have students who come from over 90 nationalities and come together in a global community. This international perspective would not be evident in any other school. Our students study the UK curriculum, however, they are empowered to be international learners through our holistic approach.
Does My Online Schooling hope to host similar virtual events for the education sector here in the Middle East in the coming days and months? Do you see the event as part of a series of virtual educational events that benefit the regional student community?
My Online Schooling is excited about the prospects of becoming the first UK online school to be based in the Middle East when we move to Dubai in early 2022. As a result, we will be hosting a number of virtual and in-person events. which will benefit the regional community.
