The military funds 100% of tuition with certain reservations. Army tuition assistance is currently limited to 130 undergraduate credit hours for your bachelor’s degree and 39 graduate credit hours for any post-baccalaureate education. Additional school fees such as books are not covered by this program.
Army TA is currently approved based on the type of course you take. Also, the courses you choose must be part of an approved course of study. (A few years ago, the military added a provision that military personnel must have ten years of service before receiving tuition assistance for a higher-level program, such as a master’s degree. If you used a financial support for part of your bachelor’s degree, you cannot use it to obtain a similar degree.)
While on active duty, you may be eligible to apply for military tuition assistance. Whether you are an Enlisted Soldier, Warrant Officer, or Troop Program Unit (TPU) Warrant Officer (non-commissioned), the only requirement is to have some active duty time to complete your school courses.
If you are an officer or warrant officer, you will be required to undertake a two-year active duty commitment in exchange for tuition assistance. Selected reserve officers and commissioned NCOs must commit to four years in the Army Reserves.
These service obligations begin on the day of the last course paid for by Army Tuition Assistance. Keep in mind that if you are an officer who voluntarily quits or is discharged for conduct, you will be required to reimburse the military for tuition assistance received for the time of service you did not have. could not perform.
The military encourages you to use these benefits at any type of educational institution, including schools that offer online degrees. The only requirement is that the school’s online program be accredited.
