The college experience is full of challenges and it’s easy to get lost in the mess. The fast-paced world doesn’t make our lives any easier either – we need to find time for homework, friends, family, a social life – the list goes on. It can be overwhelming and difficult to stay motivated when balancing all of these responsibilities. Southern Utah University tries to make it easier with affordable program tuition, but with a few tips below (and some self-care!), you can start to help motivate yourself even more.
Determine what you want to do with your degree
One of the most important things you can do to help yourself stay motivated is to have an end goal. Many people find that having something they want to understand, whether it’s their dream job or just earning minimum wage and being able to afford groceries, helps them get through tough times and keeps them on track with schoolwork. Working with a faculty member can be a big help when trying to figure out what job you want in the future. They have worked in the field or know it very well and can help you decide if it is right for you.
Know why you are going back to school
How do you find the motivation to keep going when college classes are tough and it’s easy to feel discouraged? Well, first of all, ask yourself what is your reason for being in college. It may seem like a very vague thing that doesn’t really matter, but understanding why exactly you’re there will help give you more determination and make it easier for you psychologically. You won’t fight an intangible goal if your reasons for doing so make sense.
Your “why” can range from graduating from high school to returning to the workforce after the kids; whoever is most powerful in your spirit should be inspired enough to get through tough times with dedication – and remember, no one succeeds without challenges.
Find ways to balance work, family, school, etc., so it’s not too overwhelming
One of the most important skills to have is self-motivation. Sometimes we can get so caught up in our work, family obligations, or other commitments that it becomes difficult for us to maintain a sense of motivation toward what matters. But with online college courses, you can manage your own schedule at the pace that works best for you. Besides being a useful way to manage your time, SUU Online is incredibly affordable.
Another way to develop your sense of individualized motivation is to make sure you have enough space on your plate between your responsibilities to find joy in your day. Whether it’s a big or small thing, finding small ways to add happiness to your day will keep you mentally motivated better than anything else.
Track your assignments – Don’t get left behind!
The final step to staying motivated is to stay on top of your assignments. This will keep you from feeling overwhelmed and help you feel a sense of security in your endeavors. As a student, make sure your content is quality, and in general, your course stress will decrease and your motivation will increase.
It can be hard to feel motivated when you’re juggling so many different things. You have a lot to do and the hectic world does not make your life easier. No matter the distractions, using these tips can help you find a greater level of success and a more consistent level of motivation. And remember, one of the biggest helps can be figuring out what you want to do with your degree by doing research or talking to SUU professionals.
