Free Online College – Yes, Free!

Supply and demand meet technology. This is the current state of higher education in America – online or digital learning.

The demand for higher education is growing rapidly in a global economy based on the “digital age”. The supply of content, or course offerings, has never been greater. The technology for marrying supply and demand has never been better.

Some of the most respected names in higher education are now offering free courses.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) offers nearly 3 dozen free courses, including subjects such as Physics I, Fundamentals of Biology, Electricity and Magnetism.

Harvard offers seven free online courses ranging from Justice to Quantitative Methods in Clinical Research and Public Health.

Georgia Technology recently joined a list of 62 prestigious universities and colleges in the United States offering 341 free online courses through a company called Coursera.

According to the Coursera website, the company envisions a very different world of higher education. “We are a social entrepreneurship company that partners with the best universities in the world to offer free online courses to everyone. We envision a future where the best universities educate not just thousands of students, but millions. Our technology allows the best teachers to teach tens or hundreds of thousands of students.

Through this, we hope to give everyone access to the world-class education that has so far only been available to a select few. We want to give people an education that will improve their lives, the lives of their families and the communities in which they live.
