Coronavirus: Less than half of students engaging in e-learning during lockdown at some Auckland schools

âWe have a good engagement in the zoom sessionsâ¦ we see that our kids are coming, they are visible, they love that contact. In fact, I think they thrive on that contact.
“But once they’re out of Zoom, they don’t have the access to then do the job.”
Leonard said the school had learned a lot from “lockdown by lockdown.”
“What we found in this particular lockdown, although the families said they had access to Wi-Fi, they still requested a hard pack (copy of the material), and that was probably more because of the parentsâ¦ they want those hard bags so they can help their kids with work.
âThe challenge is how do we monitor that as teachers?â¦ We really try anything and everything and at the end of the day we have to trust that our parents were there to monitor and we just do what we do. we have to do. “
Some families had gone off the radar, and that was sad, Leonard said.
âDuring the lockdown, you know, we’re not surprised that we don’t have good contact with a certain group. they’re starting to drop. “
Leonard said there were other challenges within his community that could help.
âYou know, sometimes is reading and writing as important as having food on your table, a safe place? A warm place? â¦ What concerns us for our school is if you are not in a good space in your head and in your heart, then how can you read and write?
